The Falcon Tap Apartments in York City Centre, although smart and functional, appeared to be high-end student housing with little personality.
The first impression when stepping into the communal areas and lobby was a level of sterility more commonly associated with a school or hospital.
Brief
Our clients, the owners of the successful Machine Inn in Ashbourne, asked us to refurbish the nine apartments, a mix of studio and one-bedroom units, in a style befitting modern, contemporary urban living while at the same time injecting charm and warmth into each apartment. The final design also had to fit with the company’s brand identity.
Execution
Managed by Stays York, the apartments can be booked for a night to a week, so both comfort and practicality issues for a self-sufficient stay played an essential role in the design.
Each kitchen was already fully fitted with premium appliances, including a washer/dryer, oven, hob, toaster, kettle, and coffee machine, ensuring ultimate comfort and convenience. Our remit here was to decorate and provide new small appliances to complement the room.
The chosen colour palette was warm greys contrasted with splashes of bold wallpaper, panelling and window treatments. Bespoke abstract artwork, based on York and the surrounding countryside, livens up the walls.
Blond wooden furniture and off-white kitchen units increase the sense of calm and space.
All ensuites were fully refurbished with bold “wet walls” and contemporary black shower screens and fittings.
A huge transformation was achieved in the Entrance Lobby and Communal areas where we added carpets and panelling to create atmosphere.
